I wore boots since I haven't seen one person wearing heels yet. probably because the sidewalks are a solid sheet of ice (and also i think they're just way more into boots). Commute was great, I even picked up a coffee from a shop in the subway which is not nearly as shady as you're imagining (picture to follow). The train has an ACCURATE timeclock - MTA, take note.
The office is nice, it's fairly new and it shows. It's set up for people to take the stairs instead of the elevator (ich liebe es!). I met Sebastian, my new boss, as well as the team I'll be working with. The day was a typical first day, lots of questions and introductions. German is really prevalent in the office, as I was warned, so I should learn some of it. Also, there aren't paper cups or plastic utensils (ich liebe es!)
The day was good except unfortunately I didn't get my phone so I wouldn't be able to email from home. I walked home because that's what I do, but I didn't anticipate it would be so dark. Street lights, please? I picked up some groceries and enjoyed some tasty noodles that bordered on streetfood. I checked out the neighborhood and picked up my hair appliances. The only straightener I could find was €7. I like a good deal but that is just scary... please pray for my hair. I was hoping to stroll around for a while longer but the lack of street lights creeped me out.
Frank, the super, had left me the wifi password in the mailbox, yay!! but it was wrong, boo. I was soo upset. I need to talk to the world! I went back into the darkness, found an internet cafe and sent him a pleading email to come over and help me fix it. I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm crazy but I need my worldwideweb! Frank met me at the apartment and turns out what he gave me was totally wrong. No hard feelings because it all worked out. I wanted to email and videochat with everyone but I was exhausted from the emotional rollercoaster of wifi. I switched on some German Simpsons and called it a night.
What do I miss so far? Whole Grains... and Salad. a real salad with all kinds of various dark leaves and vegetables and chopped up goodness
What am I most excited about? Using my toaster tomorrow!
Good blogger template, Nina. Your trip to Germany is like one big road trip. Also, I'm fairly certain that raspberry jam with jalapeños is as good as food can get.
